Dependents of Students
You can only bring your family members to the UK if you are:
-
sponsored by a higher education institution on a course at NQF level 7 or above which lasts 12 months or more;
-
or a new government-sponsored student following a course which lasts longer than 6 months.
You can bring your family members as long as they can support themselves financially for the entire length of their stay in the United Kingdom without needing help from state benefits (also known as public funds).
Family members are:
-
your husband, wife or civil partner; or
-
your unmarried or same-sex partner; or
-
your children aged under 18 years old.
The money that your family members will need to show depends on your own circumstances, including:
-
the length of your course; and
-
where you will be studying.
Your family members (or you) must have enough money to cover their monthly living costs.
The amount of money that your family members (or you) will need to show (in addition to the money you must show to cover your own living costs in the United Kingdom) is:
|
Where you will study |
Money needed |
|
In London |
Each of your family members will need to show that they (or you) have £533 per month, for each month of your course up to a maximum of nine months |
|
Outside London |
Each of your family members will need to show that they (or you) have £400 per month, for each month of your course up to a maximum of nine months |
Your partner and children can work while they are here, but not as a doctor or dentist in training.
